Dr. Deming follows the quote with this statement "Norv Keller of General Motors made a statement on the 8th of November 1988, I have it in my little book in my pocket. If General Motors were to double the pay of everybody in General Motors beginning the 1st of December nothing would change. He is so right. Nothing would change. Several people told him afterword they wouldn't mind having their pay doubled but it wouldn't make a particle of difference in their performance."
